Now that dramatic improvements in weaponry, communications, sensors and even the utility of individual combatants have been demonstrated in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is clear that America must revise and expand its principles of war to effectively plan and execute the more expansive and complex warfare of the future battlefield.

To deceive a deceiver.
by Boris Tiraspolsky Russian military theoretician Alexander Svechin described "useful" Operational Art of modern warfare as the “totality of maneuvers and battles in a given part of theatre military action directed toward the achievement of a common goal, set as final in the given period of the campaign”. According to the Svecin’s description, “totality of maneuvers and battles” in terrorist warfare waged against the United States by Islamic radicals could be defined as Art of Deception. Perhaps, the very first example of Art of Deception could be found in Greek mythology presented a story of a gigantic hollow wooden horse used by the Greeks to gain entrance to the city of Troy. After ten years of siege of Troy with endless “maneuvers and battles”, and being unable to capture the city, the Greeks sailed away and left the wooden horse, filled with armed warriors on the shore. A Greek spy named Sinon, (precursor of contemporary Ideological Collaborators with Enemy) (Read more... ) persuaded the people of Troy to take the wooden horse into the city. He convinced the people of Troy that to accept the wooden horse is the will of gods and by doing so they would make the city of Troy invincible for enemies. The people of Troy believed Sinon. At night he let out of the wooden horse the armed Greeks. They killed the guards, opened the gates to let in the returned main force of Greeks. Troy was captured. Some sort of deception was always an integral part of a stratagem in all wars throughout the History of Men. However, there is a great deal of difference between a usage of deception in conventional wars and wickedness of Art of Deception employed by Islamic terrorists. One thing is to mislead enemy in order to win battle. Another - to fulfill a dream of eternal bliss by killing civilians. This is what precisely Islamic radicals use Art of Deception for. Islamic terrorists practice Art of Deception that is totally foreign to Ethics and Esthetics of civilized people. They mastered immoral and ugly Art of Deception by elevating it to an extraordinary level. of every day life. In order to recognize and counteract that phenomena, one must always keep in mind the “common goal, set as final in the given period of the campaign” by Islamic radicals. It is to kill as many American people, as possible, and consequently, brake the will of the Nation to resist Terror. Terrorists may skillfully mislead you about their original intent, but their “common goal” is always to kill you. They may have a friendly smile on their faces, wearing suicide bomber belts at the same time. They may tell you the truth you also agree with, but the goal is the same. They may join you to fight their rivals, the “common goal” never changes. They may live next door and treat you as the best neighbor and friend, the “final” goal is still to kill you. Recognition of Art of Deception as the terrorist way of life is a vital step toward anti-terrorist ideological awareness of the Nation. It is also necessary for emerging new realistic U.S. Global War on Terror Strategy and consequently, Operational Art capable of thwarting enemy’s Art of Deception by the anti-terrorist “totality of maneuvers and battles” - military, intelligence. As an integral part of Operational Art of anti-terrorist warfare the United States have to develop anti-terrorist "Trojan Horse". The latter must include a wide variety of superior anti-terrorist Instruments - ideological, economic, and, of course, all sorts of “useful Arts” in battle with Terror. “ So, “Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts”! In particular, Gifts the Islamic radicals would not be able to resist! It is a double pleasure to deceive a deceiver”, after all. "One of the main problems of our Civilization is that the Evil always represents itself as the Good, and it takes too long to convince Men that the Good is not wicked." - Boris Tiraspolsky "Quotations and Maxims" __________________________________ "Useful Art" of Latin: Status quo is a Latin term meaning the present, current, existing state of affairs. To maintain the status quo is to keep the things the way they presently are. __________________________________ No return to a status quo. Part I by Boris Tiraspolsky A life-threatening condition when residents all, or in substantial numbers cannot get back to their homes and return to their normal every day life in observing future after occurred either natural, or manmade disasters is called "no return to a statue quo” catastrophic scenario. A clear example of the manmade type of “no return to a statue quo” catastrophic scenario is the tragedy of Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the former USSR in 1986. A recent example of the natural type of “no return to a statue quo” catastrophic scenario is the combined impact of hurricanes “Katrina” and “Rita” in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2005. Manmade “no return to a status quo” catastrophic scenarios are an ill-fated reality of total terrorist warfare waged against the Nation by Islamic terrorists. The condition come with a clear intent to use non-conventional weapons in terrorists acts against civilian populations. Are there some people out there who still entertain their hopes of forever deterring terrorist attacks on the American soil? Does anyone still believe that terrorists are not going to use Weapons of Mass Destruction - nuclear, chemical, biological - against the U.S. population when an opportunity comes? Then, one must be clear about the evil nature of Terrorism. A historical record of terrorist acts all over the world for the last more then hundred fifty years eloquently shows that terrorists are extremely merciless and exceptionally tenacious enemies. They always accomplish their brutal objectives, regardless of any precaution measures taken by their victims. Therefore, it is reasonable and significant to maintain a difficult, but realistic position that regardless of all current used sophisticated security devices, techniques and procedures, the United States will be attacked by terrorists again. And next attacks by terrorists against the U.S. population with both conventional and non-conventional weapons are just a matter of “when and where“. “No return to a status quo” catastrophic scenarios show their troubling face with a perilous intent to use Weapons of Mass Destruction by terrorists against civilian populations. This is a new reality of modern total terrorist warfare the United States never faced before. “No return to a status quo” catastrophic scenarios alter a paradigm of modern warfare from a military conquest to defense of civilians. That requires absolutely new Instruments and Forces in addition to those currently utilized to resist enemy in battle on the American soil. Let me put in plain words why. Will be continued...
